HEALTHY PEOPLE, HEALTHY PLANET.
We care…
As well as being committed to improving the health of our community, one of our key aims as a charitable trust is to operate sustainably and reduce the impact we make on the environment.
Over the years we have and continue to invest and put measures in place to help decrease our carbon footprint.
We are committed to minimising our environmental impact as a business.
Sustainability, clean energy, and carbon reduction are top of our agenda, and we have achieved ISO 14001 accreditation for Environmental Management. Since our incorporation as a charitable trust, we have implemented many processes to reduce our environmental impact and continue to make strides to further improve efficiency.
OUR ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES
‘A gift from mother nature’…We collect rainwater at Bradley Stoke and Yate, once treated we put it to good use by supplying water to our showers and toilets.
‘The sun – a friend of the earth’…We already generate renewable energy from four Solar Photovoltaics installations (PV). PV converts sunlight into clean electrical energy.
‘2 is better than 1’…We use combined heat and power systems (CHP) to generate renewable low-carbon electrical energy, and its low-carbon heat by-product is used to heat our centres, cutting emissions of greenhouse gases and other air pollutants.
‘Get some L.E.D. in your life’…LED lighting is used throughout our centres and uses over 75% less energy than traditional bulbs. Not only do they distribute light better than traditional bulbs, but they also have a much longer lifespan and can be recycled, which all helps reduce manufacturing environmental impact.
‘Who turned out the lights!?!…we use Passive Infrared Sensors (PIR) to control our lights! Our system detects motion, so when you enter and exit a room, the PIR system will automatically turn the lights on and off for you, reducing electricity consumption and carbon emissions.
‘We tuck in our pools every night’… our pool covers prevent loss of heat energy through evaporation.
‘We’re continually watching’…using our Energy Management System, regularly reviewing, and looking to identify changes that can be made to improve operational efficiency.
‘We’re always looking to the future’…we continuously seek environmental initiatives.
