Harassment and Inappropriate Behaviour Statement


Circadian Trust is committed to providing a safe, respectful and supportive environment for all our customers and staff.  We do not tolerate any form of harassment or inappropriate behaviour.

This statement outlines what constitutes harassment and inappropriate behaviour for all customers of Active Lifestyle Centres and employees of Circadian Trust, along with guidance on how to report incidents and our response process.

Harassment or Inappropriate Behaviour can be defined as: unwanted behaviour of a sexual or non-sexual nature, verbal or physical conduct, bullying, intimidation or actions that violate a person’s dignity or create a hostile environment.  This may include:

  • Aggressive pressure or intimidation.
  • Unwelcome attention based on a personal characteristic.
  • Conduct which threatens, intimidates, alarms or puts a person at fear for their safety.
  • Physical violence, or direct or inferred sexual threat.
  • Threatening, offensive, unwelcome, abusive verbal language or behaviour.

       Examples of Harassment or Inappropriate Behaviour:

  • Negative, unwelcome, aggressive or detrimental comments or jokes about race, heritage, ethnicity, age, ability, size, sexual orientation, gender or identity.
  • Unwanted comments on a person’s looks, dress, sexuality, age or gender in a derogatory or objectifying way.
  • Unwelcome physical contact – patting, pinching, stroking, kissing, hugging, fondling or inappropriate touching.
  • Physical violence, including sexual assault (as defined by the Crown Prosecution Service/Sexual Offences Act).
  • Repeated unwanted flirting or flirting at an inappropriate time which could be deemed to undermine or damage a person’s reputation.
  • Lewd behaviour such as leering, whistling or gesturing.
  • Taking unsolicited photographs of another person or taking photographs without another person’s explicit consent.
  • Excessive watching or staring at another person – directly or via mirrors.
  • Uninvited or excessive correction of another person’s form or technique when training.
  • Continuously exercising next to or near to another person or following them.
  • Sending or sharing of unwelcome personal images to any other person.

The extent of harassment is not limited to the above examples only and each case will be fully investigated.

Steps to take if you encounter harassment or inappropriate behaviour:

If you feel you have been harassed or witness any inappropriate behaviour whilst using our facilities, please report it to a member of staff or over the phone with a member of our customer services team by calling 0300 333 0300 or email safeguarding@circadiantrust.org  We will review and treat every case seriously with sensitivity and confidentially, and if you prefer, we can connect you with a staff member of the same gender.

What Circadian Trust will do

All allegations of harassment will be treated seriously and managed by a senior person, with discussions about the allegations limited to the involved individual and conducted only with your consent.
